Who gets to decide what archaeological and historic sites get preserved, or what a historic site even is? For 60 years, the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106) has set many of these rules. Big changes are proposed for this policy, which will radically change how archaeological sites are found, studied, documented, and saved.
This panel brings together experts from archaeology, historic preservation, policy, and law to share how Section 106 has shaped archaeology and historic preservation in Atlanta and the region. Panelists will discuss what Section 106 is, what changes are proposed, the impacts of these proposed changes, and what you can do to give feedback on these changes. All are welcome!
