Minors and Certificates

Expand Your Degree with Social Context

No matter your major, a minor or certificate from the School of History and Sociology gives you the tools to understand how historical forces and social structures shape technology, science, and the modern world. Our programs strengthen your ability to think critically, conduct original research, and communicate complex ideas — preparing you to lead and innovate in a rapidly changing global landscape.

Minors

Minors require 15 credit hours and appear on your official transcript. They are ideal for students seeking to deepen their understanding of history and sociology while developing specialized expertise in areas like global health, archaeology, or the social impact of technology and sports.

Certificates

Certificates require 12 credit hours and offer a focused way to explore specialized regional or thematic topics, such as Asian Affairs or European Affairs. Certificates do not appear on transcripts, but are recognized by the School each year with a digital certificate.
