1. What do you research, and what kind of impact does it have?
My work seeks to understand how highly stigmatized groups organize themselves to build political power. Currently, my research draws upon ethnographic data, which uses fieldwork, oral history interviews, and archival methods to understand the challenges and triumphs of Black transgender-led organizations in the U.S. South.
2. Why did you choose to work at Ivan Allen College?
I appreciate the IAC's commitment to using the humanities and social sciences to develop leaders who are prepared to advance technology in ways that improve the human condition.
3. What's your #1 piece of advice for students or alumni interested in your field?
If you're not learning, you're not living. Step out of your comfort zone and never underestimate the ways that taking a course in the social sciences/humanities can expand your worldview and sharpen not only your people skills but also your technical skills.
4. What are your hobbies and favorite things to do outside of work?
I enjoy community gardening, volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader, exploring the world, and keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
