Accessible Prosthetics Initiative (API)

Posted March 12, 2021

The Medical Robotics Club is looking for students interested in starting a chapter of the Accessible Prosthetics Initiative at Georgia Tech.

What is API?

  • Our mission is to increase access to prosthetic technologies and care, especially for those who cannot access these through traditional avenues

  • The three main ways we seek to complete our mission:

    • Educational initiatives

      • Educate amputees on what is available to them so they can make informed decisions

      • Teach current and future professionals how to incorporate accessible devices into their practice

    • Community development

      • Reach out to amputees and those in the healthcare field (doctors, prosthetists, and therapists)

      • Connect students, amputees, and healthcare providers who are passionate about prosthetics with one another

    • Developing accessible devices

      • Create something that has maximum clinical impact but is still accessible and affordable

  • We work with colleges around the country, including Ohio State and University of Pittsburgh, and we’re trying to start a chapter here at Tech

Why you should join:

  • Ensure all amputees get quality care

  • Help to break down the financial and social barriers that many amputees may experience

  • Educate amputees on the different technologies and clinical practices available to them
